Privacy Policy

Effective 2 September 2026 · last updated 2 September 2026

1. Who we are and what this covers

monklearning ("we", "us") operates an AI personal-teacher platform for JEE Main and NEET UG preparation, available on the web at monklearning.com and through our mobile app. This policy covers everything you do on either: creating an account, taking classes, playing lessons, practising, asking doubts, buying a pass, and contacting support. It applies to students, and to parents or guardians who manage or link to a student account.

2. Information you give us directly

When you sign up or buy access, we collect:

  • Your name, email address and mobile number, and a password.
  • Your exam track (JEE Main, NEET UG or both), class year, and preferred teaching language (English or Hinglish).
  • For students under 18: a parent or guardian’s name and contact, given at consent.
  • Payment confirmation details from our payment partners. We never see or store your card number, CVV or UPI PIN; payments are processed entirely by RBI-regulated payment gateways.
  • Anything you write to support, including attachments.

3. Information created while you study

This is the heart of the product; your teacher’s memory is built from it:

  • Classroom activity: the audio you speak during class, its transcript, what the teacher wrote on the board, interruptions and session timing.
  • Lessons: which chapters you play, where you pause, which subtopics you jump to.
  • Practice: every question served, your answer, whether it was right, and how many seconds it took. This powers adaptive difficulty and your pace tracking.
  • Doubts: the photos you snap of problems, including handwritten work, and the teaching session that follows.
  • Progress: your Monk Score, concept mastery states, revision flags and teacher notes.

4. Device and technical data

Like any app, we automatically collect device model, operating system and app version, browser type, IP address, approximate region, crash logs, and push-notification tokens. We use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand which features help students, measured in aggregate, not to profile individuals.

5. What we do not collect

We do not collect your precise GPS location, biometric or health data, your phone contacts, your call or SMS history, or the photos in your gallery that you have not snapped into the app. We do not collect your card number, CVV, UPI PIN or bank credentials at any point; those go straight to the payment gateway.

6. How we use your data

  • To run your classroom: understand your voice, answer your doubts, and pick the next question at the right difficulty.
  • To remember you: carry your gaps, pace and progress from one class to the next; the core of the product.
  • To report honestly: your Monk Score and progress views, and the same picture to a linked parent account.
  • To operate the service: account access, payment confirmation, class reminders you can switch off, and support.
  • To improve teaching quality: we analyse learning patterns in aggregate and use them to make the teachers better. Where classroom audio is used for quality improvement, it is de-identified first.
  • To keep the platform safe: detecting account sharing, fraud and abuse.

7. Students under 18

Most monklearning students are minors, and the platform is built accordingly. Accounts for students under 18 require verifiable parent or guardian consent at sign-up. A linked parent account can view progress, manage the pass, and request a copy or deletion of the student’s data at any time. We show no third-party advertising to anyone, and we never use a minor’s data for marketing profiles.

8. What we never do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not publish rankings or leaderboards of identifiable students. We do not read your doubts or listen to your classes for any purpose other than running and improving the teaching. Your struggle with a chapter is between you and your teacher.

9. When we share data

Only with service providers who help us run monklearning (cloud hosting and storage, payment gateways, SMS/WhatsApp/email delivery, and crash reporting), each bound by contract to use your data solely to provide their service to us. We may disclose data if Indian law requires it, in response to valid legal process, or to protect the safety of a student. If monklearning is ever acquired, this policy continues to bind the data.

10. Who processes data on our behalf

To run the service we use a small set of processors, each under contract and each limited to what it needs:

  • Cloud hosting and storage, in Indian data centre regions.
  • AI model providers, which process your voice, your typed questions and the photos you snap in order to generate the teaching.
  • An RBI-regulated payment gateway, which receives the payment and returns only a confirmation to us.
  • Notification, email and crash-reporting services, which receive your account identifier and device information.

We do not sell or rent your data to anyone. Write to us if you want the current list of processors by name.

11. Where your data is stored

Your account and study data are stored in India. Some processors, in particular AI model providers, may process content on servers outside India. Where that happens we transfer only what the processing requires, under contract, and only to countries not restricted by the Government of India.

12. How long we keep it

Your learning data is kept while your account is active, so your teacher’s memory survives gaps between passes; many students return before the next attempt. Classroom voice recordings can be deleted from settings at any time without affecting your progress data. If you delete your account, personal data is erased within 30 days, except payment and tax records we must retain under Indian law (kept for the statutory period, then erased).

13. How we protect it

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access inside the company is role-restricted and logged; classroom content is accessible only to systems that teach, not to staff browsing. We run regular security reviews, and if a breach ever affects your data we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires, quickly and plainly.

14. If there is a data breach

If a breach affects your personal data, we will notify the Data Protection Board of India and the students and parents affected within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, as the DPDP Act requires, along with what happened and what you should do.

15. Your rights

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you (or your parent, for minors) can: access the personal data we hold about you; correct anything inaccurate; export your notes, doubts and progress; withdraw consent; and delete your account and data. Do any of these from settings, or email privacy at monklearning.com. We respond within 7 working days. Complaints go to our Grievance Officer at the same address, and escalation rights to the Data Protection Board of India remain yours.

16. Grievance officer

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, write to support at monklearning.com with the subject “Grievance”. Our grievance officer, appointed under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the DPDP Act 2023, will respond within 30 days. EAO Labs Private Limited is the data fiduciary for the purposes of this policy.

17. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app and by email before it takes effect, not bury it. The date at the top always reflects the current version.

18. Governing law

This policy is governed by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and the rules made under it, and by the other laws of India. Disputes will be attempted first through mediation, then arbitration in India, and failing that will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Indian courts.
